Cherokee

Artist Karen Berry’s designs are inspired by the Southeastern woodlands where the Cherokee originally lived, by Cherokee mythology and legend (which reflects a deep respect for nature and its animals), and by Cherokee philosophy, which encompasses a broad and rich interpretation of the world, its creation and its various aspects.

This philosophy encourages a balanced awareness of the three worlds that comprise reality - the upper world, the lower world, and the middle world where humans and animals live. The Cherokee particularly admired the amphibious animals which they believed (in contrast with humans) were able to move freely between the middle and lower worlds. These traditions and legends are captured and richly displayed in Karen's designs.
